IndiaNewsNetwork.IN Bureau | 6th Sept 2015: Generation Next for Goa through a written communique has requested the Mayor of the Corporation of the City of Panjim to pass a resolution to shift the casinos from the river Mandovi in the next CCP meeting. According to a letter submitted to the Mayor, the letter says that incidents or robbery, fights, thefts, eve-teasing, chain snatching, etc have increased greatly due to the presence of the floating casino ships which are docked in the Mandovi river and the embankment is from the Panjim-Mandovi promenade.
The letter states, “People who come to play gambling (sic) on casinos under the influence of alcohol and even narcotics, miss behave with local people on Panjim street. They sometimes miss behave with local girls thinking that they are cheap and pass livid comments and show off seen gestures”.
The casino ships not only congest the river Mandovi, but have polluted the river to such an extent that shell fish which was available in plenty in the river has completely vanished. There used to be swimming competitions, but due to the polluted river, even swimming has become impossible. The letter is signed by Durgadas Kamat, the president of GenNext.
