Goa MLA Threatens IndiaNewsNetwork.IN Journalist for ‘Publishing Negative Stories’ about Goa Tourism

IndiaNewsNetwork.IN Bureau | 21st Sept 2015: A journalist working with IndiaNewsNetwork.IN was on Monday threatened by a ruling party politician and MLA from North Goa with dire consequences for publishing what he termed were ‘negative articles about the tourism industry in Goa. The MLA told journalist Flynn Remedios who had gone to interview him, that he should not come to Goa again, or else he could not be able to guarantee his safety. Remedios stays in Mumbai, but travels to Goa often to cover news stories in the Tourism-dependent State. The senior MLA in the ruling BJP government said that the news website IndiaNewsNetwork.IN had recently run a series of articles on the falling numbers of foreign tourists in Goa and the reasons behind this, and such articles were bad for Goa tourism, the MLA felt.

Russia has lost its charm for Goa, as Russian “love-affair” with Goa & India fades away

Over 20,000 Russian Tourists to Goa cancel bookings due to hike in Charter Fares to Goa caused by AAI deposit hike

Why Goa is no longer the Preferred Holiday destination for the high-paying Foreign Tourist?

Over 8500 regular British Tourists to Goa cancel their bookings this year

Remedios told the MLA that the website was doing the State a favor by highlighting the issues concerned and doing exhaustive and comprehensive research, including surveys among foreign tourists on what ails Goan tourism. But the lawmaker would not listen to him and asked him to leave his office immediately. While Remedios was leaving, the MLA said, “Do not come to Goa again or else you may not leave safely. I cannot guarantee you, that you will get back to Mumbai safely if you come back. This is a final warning,” were the words of the ruling-party politician of Goa. So much for law and order in Goa.

Remedios has written to the Chief Minister of Goa, Laxmikant Parsekar today and is awaiting a reply. IndiaNewsNetwork.IN is also considering filing a formal complaint to the Press Council of India in this regard, but will first wait to see what the CM has to say.

About Prabhakar Prasad

  1. Can you please name the MLA. alos let us know know who reads your articles for the MLA to threaten you.

  2. Please expose this boorish politician

  3. These politicians need to work in resolving these problems and securing the safety of the foreigners that come to spend their monies all over in India. Instead of worrying about reputations just worry about fixing the current problems. This will make them look better in the eyes of everyone

A 182 dollars India Visa fee is not cheap. And and very unworthy if one will be summited to the suffering or the abuses stated in several travel blogs, and generally witnessed on the streets in India. Small crimes by the thousands that goes un reported but that are occurring.

Lucky me I travel first class and stay in upscale hotels, but in reality I do not want to see any of this happening. Cero tolerance!. It is about quality control and providing a more pleasant stay for all foreigners. Sexual assaults, females unsolicited derriere grabbing, total disrespect to foreign women from the Indians, handbags snatching, rampant increase in police corruption wanting bribes or as they may like it to sound “gifts”, local inability to deal with rubbish collection and proper disposal. Airports Authority of India implementing costly fees, steep increase of cost in logging, food, transportation etc., touts, pimps, nagging and noisy local tourists, falling quality (and quantity) of food items, lesser choice on the food menu, Growing intolerance and changing socio-political scenarios where foreign tourist women can’t wear their fashionable swimming clothes on the streets near the beaches without being hustled or sexually assaulted as some locals claim this to be “indecent attire”. A huge misconception among Indian males. Furthermore Indian youth could be seeing clicking up skirt photographs of foreign women on Goan beaches..
“Most foreigners we spoke to for this survey, opined that their women were openly stalked, propositioned and “invited” at bars, pubs and even on the road. While most if not all foreign women just smile and refuse when invited for a drink by an Indian male, primarily to avoid fights or police and legal hassles, it has earned Goa a very, very bad name in the last few years.
There is a need for awareness and sensitization across India, said the owner of a popular night spot in the Baga area. While we welcome Indian tourists, they should understand that Goa is different. Here our men were taught to respect and treat foreign women with dignity, irrespective of the outfits they wore. Not all foreign women are call girls and prostitutes and this is something that Indian male tourists need to be told loud and clear. “Most Indian youngsters think that women bikini-clad female tourists can be easily taken for a “drink and drive”, which is not the case and has earned Indian men a bad reputation on the foreign social media, said a Russian tour operator, based in Moscow.”

Instead of threatening. Just praise the Indian Journalist…. he is doing you all a favor to save and preserve your tourist industry.

Also please get some tips from the following on the issues of Indian males wearing see-through (not a manly behavior) bikinis of shorts:

There are problems! do not try to blame the news or publicity for it.
